Crochet Hat for Men

This is a free crochet pattern for a crochet hat for men with a photo tutorial.


I made this crochet hat for men last Christmas season, as a gift to my nephew. You might also like my daughter's crochet headband, using stitch similar to the stitches I made for this hat.


I used Basket weave stitch in this men's hat and it is multiple of 8 sts.

Adult size is in {  }  bracket sign.


Needed

Hook size: I/9 – 5.50MM

Yarn Used: Mainstay home, 4ply worsted


Terms Used

Dc : Double crochet

Ch   : Chain

Sl st   : Slip stitch

Beg fpdc : Beginning front post double crochet

Fpdc  : Front Post Double Crochet

Beg bpdc  : Beginning back post double crochet

Bpdc: Back Post Double Crochet


Crochet Hat for Men Instructions

Chain 64 [72] , sl st to form a ring.


Round 1: Ch3, dc in each sts around, end w/ sl st to join. [ 64dc (72) dc]


Round 2-4: Beg fpdc (consider as 1st fpdc), fpdc in next 3dc, bpdc in next 4dc, (fpdc in next 4dc, bpdc in next 4dc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st fpdc.


Round 5-7:  Beg bpdc (consider as 1st bpdc), bpdc in next 3fpdc, fpdc in next 4bpdc, (bpdc in next 4fpdc, fpdc in next 4bpdc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st bpdc.

 


Round 8-10: Repeat round 2-4.


Round 11-13: Repeat round 5-7.


Round 14: Beg fpdc (consider as 1st fpdc), fpdc in next bpdc, 2-fpdc tog in next 2 bpdc, 2-bpdc tog in next 2 fpdc,  2-bpdc tog in next 2 fpdc, (2-fpdc tog in next 2 bpdc, 2-fpdc tog in next 2 bpdc, 2-bpdc tog in next 2 fpdc,  2-bpdc tog in next 2 fpdc) around, end w/ sl st to join.


Round 15: Beg fpdc (consider as 1st fpdc), fpdc in next 2-fpdc tog, bpdc in next 2 2-bpdc tog, (fpdc in next 2 2-fpdc tog, bpdc in next 2 2-bpdc tog) around, end w/ sl st to join.


Round 16: Repeat round 15.


Round 17: Beg bpdc (consider as 1st bpdc), fpdc in next 2-fpdc tog, bpdc in next 2-bpdc tog, (fpdc in next 2-fpdc tog, bpdc in next 2-bpdc tog) around, end w/ sl st to join. [16 sts  {18sts} ]

Closing

Turn the hat to wrong side. Insert the hook in inner one thread on each stitch. Remove the hook, pull the yarn gently. Weave ends. Cut the excess thread.

Edging


Other End (Round 1): On the wrong side of the hat, attach thread in any st, ch3, dc in each sts around, end w/ sl st to join. [ 64dc {72dc}]


Other End (Round 2): Beg fpdc (consider as 1st fpdc), fpdc in next 3dc, bpdc in next 4dc, (fpdc in next 4dc, bpdc in next 4dc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st fpdc.

Other End (Round 3-4): Beg fpdc (consider as 1st fpdc), fpdc in next 3fpdc, bpdc in next 4bpdc, (fpdc in next 4fpdc, bpdc in next 4bpdc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st fpdc.


Other End (Round 5): Ch1, sc in the same st, sc in next 5 sts, 2-sc tog (sc dec), *sc in next 6 sts, 2-sc tog (sc dec)* repeat *to* around, end w/ sl st to join.

Other End (Round 6): Ch1, sc in the same st, sc around, e,d w/ sl st to join.


Fasten off, Weave the ends.
