This is a free crochet pattern for Elena Slouchy Hat, a cool way to warm your head on a cold night, a hot fashion trend for the upcoming fall and winter season.

Girlie's Crochet


This is a seamless pattern, worked in round starting from the crown all the way to the brim.

The stitch used is similar to the Elena Crochet Scarf making this hat a likely companion to the scarf.

What a chic ensemble!

This Elena Slouch Hat is for kid's, size of finished project is : Diameter 20"  /  Crown to brim 10".

Materials Needed:

Yarn Weight: Worsted yarn ; # 4

Yarn Used: Red Heart Super Saver /  Frosty Green  / 184 yards

Hook Size: 5.50 MM [ US - I / 9 ]


Terms Used:

All terms are in USA terminology

Ch: Chain,  Sc: Single Crochet,  Dc: Double Crochet, Sl st: Slip Stitch,  Sp: Space,  Sk: Skip


Stitch Guide:

Puff Stitch:  Yarn over (yo), insert hook in next sc, yo, draw up a long loop, [yo, insert hook in the same st, yo, draw up a long loop] once more, (7  loops on hook), yo, draw up a loop through 6 loops on your hook, yo, draw up a loop through remaining 2 loops on hook to close. Puff Stitch made.

Stitch Guide:

6 sts  x  3 rows of DC  = 2”


Elena Slouchy Hat Instruction

Round 1: Ch 2, 9 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in 1st hdc to join. [9 hdc]


Round 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in the same st, 2 hdc in each of next hdc around, sl st in 1st hdc to join. [18 hdc]


Round 3: Ch 1, sc in the same st, ch 2, puff in next hdc, ch 2, *sc in next hdc, ch 2, puff in next hdc, ch 2, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st hdc to join. [9 puff st]


Round 4: Ch 5 (consider ch 3 as 1st dc here and throughout the round), sk next 2 ch sp, sc in next puff, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, *dc in next sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, sc in next puff, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 5: Ch 1, 2 sc in the same st, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, puff in next sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, *2 sc in next dc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, puff in next sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 6: Ch 3, dc in the same st, dc in next sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, sc in next puff, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, *2 dc in next sc, dc in next sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, sc in next puff, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 7: Ch 1, 2 sc in the same st, sc in each of next 2 sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, puff in next sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, *2 sc in next dc, sc in each of next 2 sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, puff in next sc, ch 2, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 8: Ch 3, dc in each of next 3 sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, sc in next puff, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, *dc in each of next 4 sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, sc in next puff, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.

Round 9: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each of next 3 sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, puff in next sc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, *sc in each of next 4 dc, ch 2, sk next 2 ch sp, puff in next sc, ch 2, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 10-22: Rep round 8 & round 9, end with round 8, then continue to edging.


Edging:

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each sts around but having 1 sc in 2 ch sp, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 2 -4: Ch 1, sc back loop in the same st, sc back loop in each sts around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Fasten off and weave in ends.
