Versatile enough to wear as a blouse, light enough to be a cover up.

This Rhonda Summer Top is a free crochet pattern in pineapple lace design with photo tutorial in each step. This was crocheted in two panels, starting in the center to sides, and then joins to each other.

Materials Needed:

Hook Size: US – G 6/4.00MM

Thread: Aunt Lydia’s Fashion Thread #3 , Shade: Scarlet, 3 Balls, (450 yds @ 150 yds/ball)

Tapestry Needle for weaving ends


Terms Used:

All terms are in USA terminology

Ch: Chain,  Sc: Single Crochet,  Dc: Double Crochet, Hdc: Half Double Crochet, Sl st: Slip Stitch, Sk: Skip, WS: Wrong Side,  RS: Right Side


Gauge:

2” – 10 sts  x  4R of DC’s


Rhonda Summer Top Instructions:

1st Panel

Round 1: Make ch 4, sl st in 1st ch to form a ring, ch3 (consider 3ch as 1st dc), work in the ring, dc, (ch9, 2dc) 3 times, ch 9, sl st in 1st dc to join.

Round 2: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), dc in next dc, ch3, sk next 3ch of 9ch sp, [(2dc in next ch) 3 times, skip next 3ch]  of the same sp, ch3, *dc in each of next 2dc, ch3, sk next 3ch of 9ch sp, [(2dc in next ch) 3 times, skip next 3ch] of the same sp, ch3, rep *around, sl st in 1st dc to join.

 Round 3: Ch 3 (consider 3ch as 1st dc), dc in next dc, ch4, skip next 3ch sp, dc in each dc with ch1 in between, ch4,  skip next 3ch sp, *dc in each 2 dc, ch4, skip next 3ch sp, dc in each dc with ch1 in between, ch4, skip next 3ch sp, rep * around, sl st in 1st dc to join.

 Round 4: Sl st in next dc and in 1st ch of 4ch sp, ch3(consider as 1st dc), 2dc in same sp, ch5, sk next dc, sc in next 1ch sp, (ch4, sk next dc, sc in next 1ch sp) 4times, ch5, sk next dc, 3dc in 4ch sp, *ch3, sk next 2dc, 3dc in next 4ch sp, ch5, sk next dc, sc in next 1ch sp, (ch4, sk next dc, sc in next 1ch sp) 4times, ch5, sk next dc, 3dc in 4ch sp, repeat * around,  ch1, hdc in 3rd ch of beg ch to join.

 Round 5: Ch1, sc in the same sp, ch5, sk next 3dc, 3dc in next 5ch sp, ch5, sc in next 4ch sp, (ch4, sc in next 4ch sp) 3times,  ch5, 3dc in next 5ch sp, *ch5, sk next 3dc, sc in next 3ch sp, ch5, sk next 3dc, 3dc in next 5ch sp, ch5, sc in next 4ch sp, (ch4, sc in next 4ch sp) 3times,  ch5, 3dc in next 5ch sp, rep * around, ch2, sk next 3dc, dc in 1st sc to join.

Round 12: Repeat round 11 – increase. [40 - 5ch sp]

Round 15: Repeat round 11 – increase. [52 - 5ch sp]

Round 16: Repeat round 11 – increase. [56 - 5ch sp]

Round 17: Repeat round 11 – increase. [60 - 5ch sp]

Round 18: Repeat round 11 – increase. [64 - 5ch sp]

Round 19: Repeat round 11 – increase. [68 - 5ch sp]

 Size S - Round 22: Repeat round 11 – increase. [80 - 5ch sp] cut off.

 Size M - Round 23-24: Repeat round 11 – increase.[88 - 5ch sp] cut off.

 Size L - Round 25-26: Repeat round 11 – increase. [96 - 5ch sp] cut off.


2nd Panel - Size S [ M, L ]

 Round 1-21: Repeat round 1- round 21 [23, 25] of 1st panel.

Round 22 [ 24, 26 ]: Lay the two panel parallel to each other.


Ch1, sc in same dc post, (ch5, sc in next 5ch sp) 4 times,


(ch2, sl st in 6th - 5ch sp of 1st panel, ch2, sc in next 5ch sp of 2nd panel) 14 [16 ,18] times, 


*ch2, in the corner of 1st panel, sk next 2ch of 5ch sp, sl st in next ch of the same sp, ch2, sk next 2ch, sc in the same sp of 2nd panel*, (ch5, sc in next 5ch sp of 2nd panel) 19 [21 , 23] times, rep *to* once, (ch2, sl st in next 5ch sp of 1st panel, ch2, sc in next 5ch sp of 2nd panel) 14 [16 ,18] times, (ch5, sc in next 5ch sp of 2nd panel) 5 times, ch5, sc in the same sp, (ch5, sc in next 5ch sp of 2nd panel) 19 [21 , 23] times, ch5, sc in the same sp, ch5, sc in next 5ch sp. Cut off.

Shoulder Instructions:

Instructions are in size S [ M , L ].

This instruction applies to both shoulders.

Attach thread on left side of the cover-up, in 3rd ch of 5ch sp corner.

Row 1: Ch1, sc in the same st, ch5, (sc in next 5ch sp, ch5) 4 [6, 8] times, sc in 3rd ch of next 5ch sp.


Row 2: Ch5, turn, sc in next 5ch sp, (ch5, sc in next 5ch sp) 4 [6, 8] times, ch2, dc in last sc.


Row 3: Ch1, turn, sc in the same st, ch5, sk next 2ch sp (sc in next 5ch sp, ch5) 4 [6, 8] times, sc in 3rd ch of next 5ch sp.


Row 4 to Row 19 [23,27]: Repeat row 2-3


Row 20 [24,28] : Turn the cover-up into ws (photo below is in the rs, but it is hard to do the sl st if you do this so my suggestion is turn your summer top into ws), ch2, from the side 5ch sp corner of the other panel, sk next 4- 5ch sp, sl st in 3rd ch of next 5ch sp,


ch2, sc in next 5ch sp of same panel, (ch2, sl st in next 5ch sp of the other panel, ch2, sc in next 5ch sp of same panel) 4 [6, 8] times, ch1, sl st in next 3ch in the corner- 5ch sp of the other panel, dc last sc.

On your 2nd shoulder, do not cut, continue to sleeve edging.

Sleeve Edging

Round 1: Ch1, turn the cover-up into rs, sc in the same st, *ch3, (sc in next 5ch sp, ch3) 5 times, sc in next joined st, rep * once more, ch3, (sk next dc post, sc in next sc post, ch3) across, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 2: Ch1, sc in the same st, ch1, sk next 3ch sp, (dc-ch1-dc-ch1-dc) in next sc, ch1, sk next 3ch sp, *sc in next sc, ch1, sk next 3ch sp, (dc-ch1-dc-ch1-dc) in next sc, ch1, sk next 3ch sp, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.

Fasten Off.

Repeat the shoulder instructions to sleeve for the other shoulder.


Neckline Edging:

Round 1: Attach thread in joined st on the side of the summer top, as shown on photo below,


ch1, *ch3, (sc in next 5ch sp, ch3) 9 times, sc in next joined st, ch3, (sk next dc post, sc in next sc post, ch3) 9 [11 13] times , sc in next joined st, rep * once more, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 2:  Repeat round 2 of the sleeve edging.

Hem Edging:

Round 1: Attach thread in joined st on the side of the summer top, ch1, sc in the same st, 3dc in next sc, *sc in next 5ch sp, 3dc in next sc, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 2: Ch3 (consider as 1st dc), 2dc in the same st, sk next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, *3dc in next sc, sk next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, rep* around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join. Fasten Off.
