This beanie is crocheted in round and from top (crown) down (ear).

Size of Ylah Baby Beanie is -

Circumference – 14”  x  Length (crown to base of ear point) – 5 1/2”

Materials Used:

Hook: 5.50MM [US I- 9]

Yarn Weight: #4, Worsted yarn

Yarn Used: Caron Simply Soft yarn, Persimmon 9754, 90 yards

Tapestry needle for weaving ends.


Stitch Guide:

Shell st (sh): 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in specified st

V-st: dc, ch 1, dc in specified st

Back Post Double Crochet (Bpdc): Yarn over the hook, insert hook from back to front to back around post of next dc and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook. [Bpdc made]

Dc2tog: Yarn over the hook, draw up a loop in next dc or bpdc, yarn over the hook, draw through first 2 loops on hook, yarn over the hook, sk next sc or bpdc3tog , draw up a loop in next dc or bpdc3tog, yarn over the hook, draw through first 2 loops on hook, yarn over the hook, draw through all 3 loops on hook. [Dc2tog made].

Beg Bpdc3tog: Ch1, Insert hook from back to front to back around post of completed dc3tog and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, ch 1, yarn over, insert hook from back to front to back around post of next dc and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook. [Beg Bpdc3tog made]

Bpdc3tog: Yarn over the hook, insert hook from back to front to back around post of next dc and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, insert hook from back to front to back around post of next dc2tog and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, insert hook from back to front to back around post of next dc and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through remaining 4 loops on hook. Complete 1st dc2tog: Yarn over the hook, draw up a loop in next dc or bpdc, yarn over the hook, draw through first 2 loops on hook, sk next sc or dc3tog, sl st in 1st dc. [1st Dc2tog made].

2" Square: 7 sts x 3R of DC's


Ylah Baby Beanie Instructions:

Round 1: Magic crochet, 7 sc in magic crochet, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in the same st and in each of next st around, sl st in 1st sc to join. [14 sc]


Round 3: Rep round 2. [28 sc]


Round 4: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sk next st, sh in next st, sk next st, *sc in next st, sk next st, sh in next st, sk next st, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. [7 sh]


Round 5: Sl st in next dc, ch 3 (consider as 1st dc), dc in next dc, sh in next sh, dc in next dc, *dc2tog, dc in next dc, sh in next sh, dc in next dc, rep * around, complete the 1st dc2tog (see stitch guide) to join.


Round 6: Beg bpdc, (bpdc in next dc) twice, v-st in next sh, (bpdc in next dc) twice, *bpdc3tog in next dc-dc2tog-dc, (bpdc in next dc) twice, v-st in next sh, (bpdc in next dc) twice, rep * around, complete 1st bpdc3tog (see stitch guide) to join.


Round 7: Sl st in next dc, ch 3 (consider as 1st dc), (dc in next dc) twice, v-st in next v-st, (dc in next dc) twice, * dc2tog in next bpdc-bpdc3tog-bpdc, (dc in next dc) twice, v-st in next v-st, (dc in next dc) twice, rep * around, complete the 1st dc2tog (see stitch guide) to join.


Round 8: Beg bpdc, (bpdc in next dc) twice, v-st in next v-st, (bpdc in next dc) twice, *bpdc3tog in next dc-dc2tog-dc, (bpdc in next dc) twice, v-st in next v-st, (bpdc in next dc) twice, rep * around, complete 1st bpdc3tog (see stitch guide) to join.


Round 9-12: Repeat round 7 and round 8.

Round 13: Sl st in next dc, ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next bpdc, 3 sc in 1 ch sp, (sc in next bpdc) twice, sc2tog in next 2 bpdc having skip bpdc3tog, *(sc in next bpdc) twice, 3 sc in 1 ch sp, (sc in next bpdc) twice, sc2tog in next 2 bpdc having skip bpdc3tog, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.
