You need to learn how to crochet front post and back post double crochet.

You can crochet this Phoebe Baby Beanie within 2 hours using this free crochet pattern.

This beanie is crocheted in round and from top (crown) down (ear).

Finished beanie measurement is –

Height (crown to ear) 5”  x  Width (diameter) 7” , can fit to a 0-3 months baby.

Materials Needed:

Hook: 5.00MM [US H-8]

Yarn Used: Caron Simply Soft, approx. 75 yards, Soft Pink


Terms Used:

All terms are in USA terminology

Ch: Chain,  Sc: Single Crochet,  Dc: Double Crochet,  Sh: Shell st,  Fpdc: Front Post Double Crochet, Bpdc: Back Post Double Crochet


Stitch Guide:

V-st: (dc, ch 1, dc) in specified st.

Shell (sh): 7 dc in specified st.

Back Post Double Crochet:  Yarn over, insert hook from back to front to back around post of specified post stitch, yarn over again then pull the hook around the post of specified st, you now have 3 loops on the hook, (yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook) twice; Back Post Double Crochet made. For photo tutorial please click here.

Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC): Yarn over, insert your hook from front to back of specified post stitch, yarn over again then pull the hook around the post of specified st, you now have 3 loops on the hook, (yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook) twice; Front Post Double Crochet made. Beg Fpdc: Ch1, insert your hook from back to front of dc post below (previous round), yarn over again then pull the hook around the post of dc post below (previous round), you now have 2 loops on the hook, yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, ch1 ; Beg FPDC made.


Gauge:

4 inches square: 13 sc, 14 rows


Phoebe Baby Beanie Instructions:

Round 1: Start with magic crochet, 7 sc in magic crochet, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in the same st, 2 sc in each of next st around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. [14 sc]


Round 3: Ch 3 (consider as 1st dc, here and throughout the pattern), dc in the same st, 2 dc in each of next st around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join. [28 dc]


Round 4: Ch 1, sc in the same st, ch 1, sk next st, v-st in next st, ch 1, sk next st, *sc in next st, ch 1, sk next st, v-st in next st, ch 1, sk next st, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. [7 v-st]


Round 5: Ch 3, 2 dc in the same st, sk next 1 ch sp, sc in next v-st, sk next 1 ch sp, *5 dc in next sc, sk next 1 ch sp, sc in next v-st, sk next 1 ch sp, rep * around, 2 dc in 1st sc to complete the 1st - 5 dc group, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join. [7  groups of 5 dc]


Round 6: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sk next 2 dc, sh in next sc, sk next 2 dc, *sc in next 2 dc, sh in next sc, sk next 2 dc, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. [7 sh]


Round 7-8: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each of next st around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. [56 sc]


Round 9: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sk next 3 sc, sh in next sc, sk next 3 sc, *sc in next sc, sk next 3 sc, sh in next sc, sk next 3 sc, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 10: Ch 3, 3 dc in the same st, sk next 3 dc, sc in next dc, sk next 3 dc, *sh in next sc, sk next 3 dc, sc in next dc, sk next 3 dc, rep * around, 3 dc in 1st sc to complete the 1st sh, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 11:  Ch 1, sc in the same st, sk next 3 dc, sh in next sc, sk next 3 dc, *sc in next dc, sk next 3 dc, sh in next sc, sk next 3 dc, rep * around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 12-13: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each of next st around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. [56 sc]


Round 14 (Ribbing): Ch 3, fpdc in next sc, (bpdc in next sc, fpdc in next sc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st dc to join.


Round 15: Beg fpdc, bpdc in next fpdc, (fpdc in next bpdc, bpdc in next fpdc) around, end w/ sl st in 1st fpdc to join.


Round 16: Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each of next st around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.

Fasten Off.
